Open Call for Low-Tech and Disposable Films
London Filmmakers Showcase
DIY SHORT FILMS & NETWORKING
Thurs 20 Sept 2018, St. Margaret's House, London
This September, we're trying out a new theme: DIY films and we want you to get involved! We'll be showcasing short films made with low-tech / disposable media such as phones, tablets, webcams, action / helmet cameras, CCTV and more. If you'd like to submit your film for this event, please read on carefully.
Your film can be of any genre as long as they are under 5 minutes and made with low-cost devices. We are not looking for films made with DSLRs.
Short Films by Female Directors
We had a full house last week at our London Filmmakers Showcase & Networking event! What a way to kick off 2018. We screened six short films from London-based filmmakers and held a Q&A with four of them. Check out the photos here.
Sorry we had to turn some of you away, we couldn't fit everyone in! If you missed the screening, you can catch up below (not all the films are available to watch online as they are still in festival circuit).
London Film Networking
Last Saturday, we held an event with a new theme - screening short films made by female directors! This was special to us because although the number of films directed by women is rising, we still feel they are underrepresented in the industry. More than half of the submissions we receive in general are from male directors, so we hope to organise new projects that will encourage more women to get involved - watch this space!
Our sold-out event was a huge hit with guests queuing up for last-minute tickets. This has been one of our most popular themes and we will definitely repeat this theme in the near future. See more photos on our Facebook page. We screened nine varied short films, find out more about them below!
As most of you know, our usual events have at least one hour of short films and a bit of networking. Last Saturday, we changed it up slightly and focused more on networking! We still kept our guests entertained with a few short films which you can find out more about below.
The room was filled with about 70 people and we had a great time meeting them. It was fantastic to see lots of people (both from the deaf/hard-of-hearing and hearing communities) getting to know each other and making connections.
The Film Quiz
Yesterday, we had our first event that screened only documentary short films! It was a great evening, exploring a wide range of topics such as rhino extinction, dementia, cheese in Russia and orphan dogs in India. We screened eight documentaries and some are available online to watch again or catch up if you missed the screening! Check them out below.
One Year Anniversary!
As promised, we ran another film quiz for The Film Bunchers last week! We threw questions about international cinema, silent films, documentaries, literary adaptations and we had a video round of 'What Just Happened?' as that was many people's favourite from last time!
Social Ark kindly sponsored a cash prize of £30 for the winners and the winning team was... 'Wilhelm's Cream' who got 39 out of 50 questions right! They also won a year of free entry to our events.
London Filmmakers Showcase
Thank you to everyone who joined our one year anniversary celebration last night! We couldn't have asked for a better crowd to celebrate it with, we hope you had a brilliant evening and made some great connections. Huge thanks to the people who made it possible: our team, volunteers, sponsors and partners! Check out the photos here.
Over the past year, we've screened 74 short films in total and we chose eight of them to be screened again yesterday - congrats to the filmmakers! We had a variety of short films, including UK and international films, comedy and animation. Some are available to watch online and some are still going around festivals, you can check out the details below!
Yesterday was our first screening dedicated to the talent of local London filmmakers and the room was packed! Check out the photos on our Facebook page. Thank you to everyone who joined us - it was one of our most popular themes so we plan on doing another one later this year. We screened nine short films, you can find out more about them below!
Yesterday, we ran a Comedy Short Films & Networking event at The Book Club in Shoreditch - we had a great time and would like to thank everyone who joined us, we hope you had a few laughs! Photos are up on our Facebook page. We screened seven short films, you can find out more about them below.
Last Saturday, we held an animation-themed event and screened twelve short films from both UK and international filmmakers. What a great turnout! You can see photos on our Facebook page. Check out the details of the films we showed below!
